Malaysian singer-songwriter RINA-HIME released an EP that puts personal experience at the forefront. REFLEKSI ILUSI contains six songs, released on digital streaming services and in a physical edition for collectors.
Sound, themes, and songwriting
Musically, the EP combines J-Rock intensity with structured pop-rock songwriting. Textured guitars and drum rhythms support the vocal dynamics. The central themes are illusion and identity, expressed through personal lyrics. RINA-HIME described the project as growing out of real experiences, especially feeling disconnected from her identity while trying to meet others’ expectations.
Producer Raja Nazmin Shah keeps the vocals prominent, while collaborators such as No Time For Silence and Ana Raffali bring different musical influences. The arrangements combine modern production with a more intimate approach.
Visuals and the music video
The music video for “Refleksi Ilusi”, directed by Azfar Hamdii of MTAS Production, uses performance imagery and slightly surreal scenes to explore the contrast between outward appearances and reality. Brief narrative moments leave room for viewers to interpret the message. Watch the official music video on YouTube.

Full original lyrics (Malay)
Tutur katamu menjerat dikala malam sepi
Senyum manismu hantui segala khalayan diri
Tanpa rela aku tergari
Silih ganti mencari sanubari
Sahaja ku rias wajah kerana kau
Refleksi Ilusi
Menghuni semua mimpi
Akulah bintang
Tersinar terang
Serah semua yang kau pinta
Walau bukan dari jiwa
Yang tak sempurna
Cacat cela kaburkan segala
Hati yang terluka
Sembunyi sendiri
Refleksi Ilusi
Tiada yang tahu
Wajahnya di balik bayang kaca
Disanjung dunia hanya ilusi
Yang kau dambakan selalu
Dia terluka
Rintihnya sepi
Kala sempurna raga
Pulanglah, waras yang lalu
Akulah bintang
Tersinar terang
Serah semua yang kau pinta
Walau bukan dari jiwa
Yang tak sempurna
cacat cela kaburkan segala
hati yang terluka
sembunyi sendiri
Refleksi Ilusi
Akulah bintang
Tersinar terang
Serah semua yang kau pinta
Walau bukan dari jiwa
Yang tak sempurna
Cacat cela kaburkan segala
Hati yang terluka
Sembunyi sendiri
Refleksi Ilusi
Sebuah khayalan diri
Yang tak sempurna
Cacat cela kaburkan segala
Hati yang terluka
Sembunyi sendiri
Refleksi Ilusi
Selected lyrics
These lines from the opening help illustrate the EP’s emotional themes. The lyrics are reproduced in their original language below:
Tutur katamu menjerat dikala malam sepi
Senyum manismu hantui segala khalayan diri
Tanpa rela aku tergari
Silih ganti mencari sanubari
Sahaja ku rias wajah kerana kau
Refleksi Ilusi — menghuni semua mimpi
These words use poetic imagery to describe pressure and the public personas people create to meet expectations.
The source article describes the songwriting process as gradual: drafting lyrics, testing melodies in a small studio, and building arrangements together with the producer and other musicians. That method gives the emotions room to develop in the music as well as in the words.
Some songs emphasize changes in dynamics. A quiet opening may lead into a powerful chorus, while recurring riffs can reinforce an emotional motif. The vocal recording focuses on expression, balancing clean melodic passages with a deliberately rougher sound where the lyrics call for it.
The EP also shows how collaborations across the regional music scene can shape work influenced by J-Rock. The musicians bring different approaches while keeping the production connected to RINA-HIME’s own themes.
Several tracks were also arranged with live performance in mind. Some passages could be adapted to acoustic versions, while others are built for a louder stage setting. That flexibility connects the studio work to the way audiences may hear the music live.
Its themes invite discussion of personal identity, pressure to appear perfect, and emotional well-being. Different listeners may relate to the lyrics or simply find something comforting in the melodies.
The release includes visual materials, from the EP cover to the music video. Together, these help explain how the personal subjects behind the songs were expressed through images as well as music.
Collaborators and production details
Raja Nazmin Shah produced the EP, working with musicians from the regional scene. Cello contributions by Raja Nazrin Shah add warmth to parts of the record, while guitar and drum performances reinforce its J-Rock character.
The production aims to preserve an intimate feel despite the more polished instrumentation.
